Tonight while I was meditating, I thought of someone that I hadn’t thought about in years. Funny that I did because I truly missed her. Anyway, I woke up from my trance and couldn’t get back to sleep. It was around midnight and I decided to get up and go to the Chalet, the local bar here in Eagle Rock.

I’m doing research on the gentrification of Eagle Rock and how things have changed in the past several years. My next step in my research is to interview someone. I went with no idea of what I should ask and/or how to ask the questions. I don’t know if I’ll be able to use any of it, but I’m glad I experienced a good practice round. Can’t wait for the next time. I learned that people will say anything when drunk. It’s kinda funny.

Perhaps it was this cartoon from Steven Beckman’s article on the Space Collective that fully explained (in not so many words) the concept and idea behind “branding”:

Or perhaps it was the voice of God inspiring me to “make art, not ads” and that all my “shit looks like advertising.”

Whatever if was, it helped me to finally get the meaning and essence of what is known as “branding”. Being an ad student, I’ve struggled with this for some time, but judging by last week’s crit in Branding Strategies class (which for the most part was pretty good), I believe that I’m beginning to get the picture. Here’s my final mid-term. Do you GET IT? You don’t get it…

New Balance Brand Bible

I hate posting idiots like this. Not because of his “religious” views, but because his deductive reasoning is so informal and inconclusive with no reference to theology or historical fact. It’s like he just made up his own conclusions in his head, but analyzing the same book he says not to believe. It’s too literal, taking in a word-for-word translation. I don’t know why I post shit like this. Maybe it’s to teach the lesson that there are some really fucked up, uneducated people in this nation; perhaps a warning to other countries that yes, some Americans can be awfully one-sided and blind. Either way, watch and pray that this guy isn’t elected to some sort of public office one day.

Went to this SportsPro shop off Rosemead today to research some Vespas for AdCon2. Pretty cool scooters. In fact, I was told by the sales rep, Justin, that Vespas are the number 1 selling scooters in the world. I was like, “Wow! more than Razors?!”

He looked at me strangely after that.

Just finished a comprehensive biographical exploration of John M. Browning, the genius, prodigy, and inventor of the most modern-day gun mechanisms and the actual guns themselves. Son of Jonathan Browning, blacksmith and gun maker. His crowning achievement reciprocates back to my own cultural heritage as a Filipino. He invented the M1911 .45 Caliber Automatic Pistol, or as famously known as the “Colt .45.” I say that with quotes as there are many a company that have developed their own .45 Cals onto their own specs or have improved on the specs of Browning’s designs. After all, his automatic mechanism is virtually untouched and remains the quintessential firing mechanism of automatic guns.

Initially, I started this research with the intent of finding a way to communicate how design could be “lethal”, literally. As I explore this subject however, I find that I’m increasingly becoming more fascinated with the subject. In some capacity, the idea of guns frightens me and come with a certain stigma of urban gangs and violence–-as it should. But like I said, the more I do research on the life of J.M. Browning and the influence and story behind what transpired in his life, the more the thought of his genius becomes apparent and reflected in his legacy.

I’m not vindicating guns or most of the crazy MFers who use them for purposes ill and otherwise. God knows I don’t own one, yet.

Last scene from “The Last American Virgin”
