Isn’t it funny how one can find the darnedest things on youchoob? A classmate of mine is doing Lonely Planet for one of her clients. So I decided to look this up “cocaine” and guess what I found? That’s right! A video on how to make cocaine from Lonely Planet! Is this coincidence or what?! So here it is just in case, ya know, you get a hold of a kilo or two of coca leaves from the sticks of the Columbian rain forest. Hey you can never know too much, right?

Ahhh…research into today’s counter-culture. I have a social hypothesis that the hipster culture in the US is still outwardly “pop” as a direct result of the ALPHA MALES being off to war. Can someone make http://www.hipsterfights.com already?! Here are a couple of hipster youchoob parodies you simply must watch if you haven’t seen them already. Sundays are my long run and for the next 16 weeks I’ll be training for the Pasadena Half-Marathon. What does this have to do with Advertising? Absolutely nothing. But it is relevant to my education and this time here that has changed me. My friend Josephine and I had brunch this past Friday for my belated birthday, and we talked about how we enter school as one person and leave another one. Already I’m feeling how true this is becoming. I find that running helps build my physical and emotional wellness; just another added goal to shoot for in my hot pursuit. So I’ve added a new category that I’ll try to doc every Sunday–”Long Run Sunday” to document the progress.

After my friend Felipe’s bday last night, I decided to quit drinking for now. Its all good for me as I have discovered that I have an acute allergic reaction to alcohol anyway–I get intoxicated. So I’ve given it up in order to cut down on the extra calories. Who knows? Perhaps this will lead to quitting drinking altogether. I’m actually secretly shooting for that. Of course, there are some that would doubt that I could quit. But have faith; look at what I’ve done with smoking. I’ve been quit for that last two years, and I feel fantastic! And that has a huge physical and chemical withdrawal. This is just another hurdle to overcome.

This week will be my first week at the long run and complete my first full week of training. So far, my schedule consists of tempo runs of 3/4 miles (for now) on Tues, Thurs, and Friday with Sunday as the long run. The distance increases as the weeks progress. I try to fit in core and weights on days off as much as possible with Mondays off completely. My diet is slowly starting to change (thanks Zigs!); monitoring what I take in on the daily at a 1500-1700 calorie count.

So there it is! I’m officially in training mode for the next 16 weeks. I’m getting some friends already hitting me up with their words of encouragement (THANK YOU!), and others inquiring about training with me. I think it’s all fantastic!

I’m definitely not getting any younger, so I’d be God-damned if I didn’t try this before I go. Wish me luck!

Need more laughs? I don’t. But I’m lazy and desperate enough right now to look for anything to put up on the blog because I’ve slept for a total of 9 hours in the last 3 days. So I’ll post this anyway in a hurried urge to still seem relevant, even though I’m not really. I posted this a while ago, but no one really saw it so I’m doing it again because frankly it’s awesomely still… truthful. Whether or not it is what we really think in the ad world or not, the truth is that these performances are so damn good that you’ll buy it anyway sucker!

Is the truth funnier than fiction? Let me know what you think, but really, that doesn’t matter because no one ever comments on this trifle of a blog anyway. Hope I don’t give you a case of “truthful turrets”; that could be contagious! But then again, it could begood for you ad world! hahaha But you knew that already… No, you didn’t!

Fuck you! Drop dead. =)

Cheez it just cheezed me! Pretty cool online cuz you can say stuff with some predetermined lines, or type in your own cheesy line from the movie a la “Beam me up”, “Two for transport”, or “Make it so…” Pretty neat! But my forehead looks like it’s been burnt by some Klingon sunshine. Ya Chris Pine, I’m gunning for your job boyee!

Create Your Own

Okay, so for now we still do. But after seeing this video form Paul Debevec, actors might start becoming an endangered species, at least in live action. Reminds me of that Al Pacino flick Simone. Imagine the therapeutic and medical applications this technology can do one day? Not to mention the military, tourist and the adult film industry! I’m just saying…

Dude, WTF is this?! LULZ. The “Heart and Soul” scene from the Tom Hank’s movie, Big, in Taiwanese. Enjoy!

Sorry I’m so late on this Agency Wednesday. I had a Star Wars book day at the Hastings library and was so worn out from all the activities that I knocked the hell out early! Anyway, Jeff Goodby of Goodby, Silverstein, and Partners (Got Milk?, Hyundai, NBA “Only One”, Sprint) came to speak at Art Center today. A former board member of the school, he brought some insight in his company’s philosophy as well as some of his own personal anecdotes.

His most memorable today, being when he met the legendary David Ogilvy of Ogilvy & Mather (made famous by the “Man in the Hathaway shirt” campaign, Kraft, and Mattel) when he used to work at O&M. Ogilvy inquired how many hours he wrote each day. In which Goodby replied (as any good junior employee copywriter should at the time)–eight to nine hours. Ogilvy gawked at his response stating that he should be writing for two to three hours each day; the rest of the time finding things to write about.

So on that note, here are some particulars from the GSP library to take up some of that other six hours. Enjoy!

I need a laugh. Don’t you? I’ve heard so much about the U2 360 concert from friends recently, that I couldn’t help but think about this South Park episode “More Crap” with Bono in it. So for this Music Monday, I decided to post some of the highlights from YouTube user “DiiMES7AR”. Another great episode from the Emmy Award winning writers at South Park! Full FREE episode available for viewing at http://www.southparkstudios.com, or just click the link here. Enjoy and laugh out loud!

I run to live. Seems like nowadays that running is the only thing that actually cheers me up, believe it or not. I’ve been up trying to get some sleep for the past some-odd hour or so. It hasn’t helped. I’m going through a creative crisis right now amid all this drama with school. I don’t know if creatives will admit this or not, but sometimes I get into this rut, where I don’t have a damned idea in my head. So I run, in order to get my mind off of it being so fucking empty.

Which brought me to a thought that came to my head while running the Nike 10K on Friday. The thought was this: No matter what my time will be or how this all turned out, I know in my heart that I did my best. I didn’t stop. I may not have won, but I beat it to the end. I may have been tired, (Lord knows any man would be), but I never showed that course that I was hurt. I never gave it that satisfaction. And that, to me, is what counts.

This “It’s a wrap” comes one day early today. I’m running tonight at midnight for the Nike 10K, and probably won’t have much time to reflect as I need to rest up, then get up in several hours to run.

But to sum up this week–Did NOT have a good creative week AT ALL. Not even in the least. I feel creatively drained and I’ve been reacting and over-thinking the drama that’s been happening at school this year. I simply need to get my ass back in focus. Some good advice I heard about school drama was this–fuck everything else. Fuck drama. Fuck school. Fuck competition. Fuck everything. Because lots of things will always be fucked up. Just–WORK. When all is said and done, no one is going to remember how nice I was, but they will remember how MFn hard I worked.

So fuck it. It’s on.

I just started a new books page for anyone who wanted some recommendations on some good reads. I posted only a couple on here for now, but make sure to check in from time to time as I will try to update this list regularly. If you have any books that you would like to recommend, please feel free to email me at rdavid [at] inside.artcenter.com. Hope these help! –Cheers, Ray
