Argh…I was looking up some reference to “The Man Who Walked Between The Towers”, a book by Mordicai Gerstein, and I came across this simply HORRID reading of the famed children’s story. They’re more home videos that some dude put on the web. The funny thing is, they are so amateurishly BAD, I find them so GOOD. Everything to me seems so confected nowadays with the advent of pro and pro-sumer applications on computer. So these stupid, raw, and BAD vids actually break from more of the same out there.
Here more of the guy with the monotone voices and serious need for some Hooked on Reading:

The Movie Hot Rod is hilarious!
A friend of mine showed this commercial to me and a bunch of friends tonight. Spectacular! Kinda falls in line with Soady’s project…enjoy!
Here’s another one from España!
I think this one is from Italy.
Here’s a pretty good one from Guiness! I don’t know if it’s from the US or the UK, but it’s an Irish stout.
From Brasil (Brazil), the land of hotties!
Yea…Brasil…
And uh…yea. Brasil…
And of course, can’t forget those darn Aussies!
So I just looked up some more videos on The Electric Company and found some old skits that Morgan Freeman put up on the show. Check em out:
Along the way, I found some skits that Bill Cosby also put up on the show:
And then I found some old songs that Bill Cosby recorded. Kind of like Eddie Murphy’s Butt song, but more vintage.
Paul Soady assigned a project for Art Direction 2 in which we have to parody a foreign beer brand by gathering elements of the product, and actually faking some text in the beer’s native language. He wasn’t kidding when he mentioned that German had a long syntax. And so, along came this little ditty as I was looking for ah…recipes, on the internet. Check out my newest favorite slow jam in German by German pop sensation Silbermond singing Das Best, complete of course with English translation. Danka…
Ummm…funny?!
And now a word from Advertising across the pond…
And even more from across the pond…
In light of the inaugural celebration of Barack Obama, I felt the need to post this video of the new Pepsi commercial. I’m told that this the print ad is ideated from an Art Center grad. Awesome. Be sure you check out the link at the end.
If Bill Clinton could be considered the first “Black” President, then could it be so far fetched to grant the title of the first “Asian” President to the President-Elect Barack Obama? I thought I was crazy, until of course I found others that could agree with me. Check out this article from the SF Gate, home of the San Fran Chronicle.

So maybe it doesn’t have the sophistication of an awesome American brand like Coke, Pepsi, McDonalds, or Budweiser… But if advertising a specific website on television, that isn’t a porn site of hook-up line, is an indication of a specifically directed ad strategy, then like Dillan would say, “the times they are a-changing.” I’m sure by now many people have been bombarded by these little jingles for freecreditreport.com. I’m merely astonished by the amount of research and direct targeting that these commercials represent on a variety of lifestyles and situations. Dare I say that these are ingenious? I shall. Now if only I knew the ad director or agency responsible for them. They seem like they’re done in house, which is fine considering that I can’t get the fucking jingles out of my head!
Check ‘em out for yourself:
What a fucking coincidence! I just recently found out that PBS is reviving The Electric Company, the show I spoke about in yesterday’s blog. Mere coincidence? I think not! After all, I did state on my Facebook that I was psychic. haha Good thing, as this show was simply, electric.
Here’s the link to the New York Times article:

So I’m doing some research for Mikio’s class on the late Lou Dorfsman, a local to Manhattan and well as respected graphic design and ad man. Lou was regarded in the late 70s and up to mid-80s as the creative force behind CBS, and the famous CBS wall in NYC. He was responsible for that CBS “eye” logo as well as the Didot typeset. He worked for the French-based ad agency Arnold Worldwide.
What’s absolutely NUTS about my assignment is not the fact that I’m finding interesting facts about Lou, but at the fact that I have the article about his passing earlier last year when I was clipping articles for Comm Design 1. Crazy.
Anyway, here’s a vid I found on Lou on YouTube:
Back at school and trying to get back into the swing of things. I have a lot of projects this first week but taking it all in stride with the 4-day work week that I’ve scheduled for myself. Hopefully I won’t go too crazy. I’m planning on hitting up a party tonight that a couple of my classmates are hosting. Good times and much needed partying before the madness begins. My buddy Duane is coming from the OC so hopefully we’ll get to hang out tonight.
I have a photo shoot tomorrow with Alain. We’re shooting Colt on day two of our photographic expedition. As I’m told, the photos from the shoot last week came out really awesome. Hopefully we’ll get some good shots in this weekend as well.
Okay, so I always mention this show, The Electric Company, that I used to watch when I was little, and NO ONE seems to know WTF I’m talking about….am I just THAT old? Anyway, I used to love this show more than Sesame Street. Yes, more than SESAME STREET! Why? I don’t know. Maybe because at the end of some episodes they would feature a skit with Spiderman in it. For real! Come to find out, years later I learned that Morgan Freeman used to star in the show! Trip. Anyway, here’s the opening…you might find out that there’s a reference here to The Goonies, or rather, The Goonies referenced something from this opening…
Did you see Morgan Freeman? haha watch it again! And here’s that scene from Goonies…
Anyway, this all came about tonight when someone TEXTED me about The Perfect Strangers theme song, which is…
Remember that? Well, this lead me to look for…
Which lead me to the link of…
Did you notice Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas? This lead me to look at…
I used to LOOOOOOOVE the Mathnet series on there, although they NEVER finished the DAMN SERIES!!!! And this lead me to the opening of The Electric Company.
Of course, the person in question who asked about The Perfect Strangers theme, actually thought the song in this opening credits was the theme song…
Sound familiar? That’s RIGHT! This song is used in the new Diet Dr. Pepper commercials. I find it somewhat odd that the treatment of music is lifted straight from an intro of an 80s sitcom. Well there’s reference for ya.
I actually used to be able to play this on the piano.
I guess Skittles changed it up or upgraded their “Taste The Rainbow” slogan, yea? I will probably regret this later by saying this, because I don’t know exactly what to make of this commercial yet. It’s kinda weird, but kinda stupid. Either way, I thought that the ending sounded like an old episode of Transformers “Next Week” plugs. Anyway, here’s the loop:
Okay, I just realized that one of the dudes in the commercial is speaking TAGALOG! WTF?! He’s saying, “…but I’m hungry!” And I think that the dark tailor dude is speaking it too, but can’t understand him as much. I thought they were speaking Mongolian or something. HAHA. Nevermind that there is a black dude and some other dude in the mirrors, just having a Filipino dude speaking Tagalog on TV is awesome. Now that’s funny!
I didn’t even have to go to class today. And I think I’m sick.
I had an incredible weekend though. I had a date on Friday which went really well. I spent a majority of this weekend scouting out spots in Downtown LA for a photoshoot. I helped some friends of mine, Alain and Angela, with some high-concept photography that we were shooting for our other friend. Had a great time and got a better sense of photography and an actual photo shoot. I helped with some of the Art Direction, so also assisted with spotting out some other details to fix throughout the shoot. I’ll try to post some shots up asap.
Other than that, just reflected a lot on this past break. By far, I actually got to finish a couple of books. Ironically however, none of these two were on my planning reading list! haha Things I read were of course the aforementioned book, Do You Matter? and also A Whole New Mind: Why Right Brainers Will Rule The Future by Daniel Pink. I’m in the process of finishing up The Art of Happiness by His Holiness The Dalai Lama and Howard Cutler, M.D. I sometimes passed the time by playing poker on Facebook. Got pretty addicted actually but ended up losing practically all my chips. Thank God its only play money!
So Spring term begins for me, and I’m sorta looking forward to another exciting 14 weeks of hell, believe it or not. This will be term three, which would mean that after this term I would be almost halfway done with school. I just hope this term doesn’t kill me like the last one almost did.
Okay guys, not really. But why couldn’t I come up with this in Koji’s class? Darn. Funny shit tho. Enjoy!
