Okay that was supposed to be a chant, but as you can see, I’m a little rusty. Anyway, I was in B&N today scoping out some books for class, when I came across this desk highlighting literature around the local area. There were books on “Glendale in the 20s”, “the SF Valley”, and WHAT’S THIS?!? “FILIPINO’S IN HOLLYWOOD?!”
Awesome. I just had to pick it up and read it to see some hot ass pics of bomb-ass clubs like The Highlands and Avalon.
Low and behold, all I found was some historical narratives about Filipinos that came to LA in the 1920s, discrimination, and the legacy that us “Flips” have inherited and continually persevere through the performing arts. There are A LOT of pictures. Actually, I think the whole thing is mostly pictures of celebs and stuff.
There’s nothing in it about wearing black and white, Pompadours, STS, PR, THS, SYB, JFX, TGP, Housers, flyer parties, tweak, taggers, the Remix twins, Atwater, Eagle Rock, Cerritos, Wesco, Fresno, Frisco, Diego, MID, DMK, Chuckles & Co, Legend, Source, 21XL, Rewind, The Mayan, Sylmar, Q-Bert, or Jeri “Dotz” Lee–so don’t expect to see any of that crap in it. Although Apl.D.Ap is in it and he was from Tribal Nation bak in da day, so dat was kinda presh.
