Words from the great Chick Hern cannot describe this relief of the term finally wrapping up. Creative is done (finally!) and now I’m thinking solely about execution. It feels like it’s been a long term regardless of the short ride. I’ve never felt 14 weeks longer, and I only had two ad studios this term. I’m definitely in the final quarter of the game and now it’s time to dig deep to really pull off something beautiful.
Although I was working as an Art Director before I came to the school, the Art Direciton 1 & 2 series with Mel Sant and Paul Soady has definitely made me a better one. And I’ve learned that there is an infinite amount of play when it comes to good art direction. Art direction is a craft that should not only be learned, but mastered. But after all is said and done, I must say that Mikio’s class has been the most challenging and exceptionally so being that he is the “gate keeper” and all. Meaning that if I don’t pass his class, then I cannot move on. One of our Ad mentors, Rance Randle, mentioned to me the secret to passing Mikio’s class at his grad night last term. And the secret of that class is really no secret at all—WORK. Work you’re ass off. Work every week. Work until you cannot work. Then, after all is said and done, work some more. If you didn’t realize that “work” is really “play”, then you don’t belong in Advertising. The same goes with every class really.
Anyway, it’s the final minutes of the game. And just like Juelz Santana said, “if you fall, get up and try it again, uh huh…”
