That’s Not Kyoto

This is sick. No really, this is absolutely GROSS. Doing research for my DFS class and came across this graphic on the Kyoto Protocol because, well, I didn’t know what it was. So I’m looking it up on Wikipedia and find this:

“The Kyoto Protocol is a protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC or FCCC), aimed at fighting global warming. The UNFCCC is an international environmental treaty with the goal of achieving “stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system.”

In a nutshell, the Kyoto Protocol are rules to help combat global warming so we don’t all eventually die. Hey that sounds awesome! Until I look at the map (above) and read this caption:

“Participation in the Kyoto Protocol, as of June 2009, where dark green indicates the countries that have signed and ratified the treaty, grey is not yet decided and red is no intention to ratify.”

I don’t know how updated this information is, or how this will all play out, but regarding recent events happening in the Gulf, doesn’t it make you stop and think?

Someone has to come out with a new “truth” campaign, but instead of targeting big tobacco, they should target big oil. Now there’s an idea.
